Protect your plants from damage. As a preventive measure, growers regularly treat plants for fungus. This helps to avoid browning of the leaves or root rot.
Browning of the leaves can be a result of several problems:
A treatment, with a good fungicide, will help against root rot and fungus on the leaves. We recommend a light feeding, added to the water, when watering your plants. With the same treatment, apply a topical mist. This will add strength to help resist other issues.
Fungus is naturally occurring, just like in your shower. Moisture and fungus are a team.
When fertilizing often, be sure to reduce your fertilizing mixture to about 25% of the recommended mixture. This will reduce the risk of burning the plant.
An unhealthy plant is a stressed plant, and it will experience serious issues if a pest or fungus gets to it. So, keep them happy!
Here is a super easy preventative when watering your plants. It's important to fully water the plant when you feel it is time.
A little sip, here and there, will offer up the chance for issues. If you feel your plant does not dry out soon enough, then change out the soil to a more well drained mixture: bark, or perlite, are great ways to do this.
When a plant requires more water, and more often, simply feed the plant more often. What happens when you are hungry? You eat more!
Also, once every 2 to 3 months, give your plant a good flush, with clean water. This will remove any salt build up, or wastes, that may be in the soil.
So many people will ask advise on growing plants in their home, especially when they are having issues.
It's important to research care of a plant before purchasing it. There is no way for anyone, who is not in the same exact environment as you, to give you the proper advice. Some plants just don't work in some environments!
There really is no such thing as a houseplant! Humans introduced them to the home. Sounds a lot like wolves and our loyal pet dogs. Nature originally made them outdoor plants.
Best advice, learn were the plant originated from. Then, do your best to replicate that environment.
Likely, you will not get to have every plant you want, because some plants just cannot survive the environment.
We take a lot of time, and care, when packaging your plants. This allows for the best possible travel experience. We use a lot of tape to secure them. So, please, gently cut away the tape as you open the package Do not yank, or jerk, on the plants.
You should always quarantine your plants once they arrive. Water them, if needed. I also suggest spraying them with a fungicide, as well as a systemic insecticide, to be sure there are no micro size critters hiding out. We always do our best to send a bug-free plant.
Think about it, a zoo does not get a new animal and put it right into general population. Instead, the animal is cared for, and carefully monitored, to be sure there are no issues resulting from its travels.
Quarantine your plant before introducing it to strangers. It's your investment!
We strive for our plants to be free of pests, but it can happen.
We do not believe in mass spraying, in order to kill every pest. We do, however, watch our plants very closely. We will spray only what needs to be sprayed, when it needs to be. As a result, we are careful to preserve our most precious critters.
For edibles & butterfly plants, we do not apply harmful chemicals. If this type of plant requires treatment, it is done using Dawn dish detergent.
When our milkweed acquires too many aphids, and the lady bugs have not yet moved in, we will treat by hand dipping the tips of the milkweed in a bucket with dawn mixture. This will take care of some, to most, of them.
Our critters are important to the ecosystem, even the ones we do not want.
